Waterbury, Conn. - Freshman
Sha'Raya Haines (Springfield, Ma.) scored a team high 20 points, but the Post University women's basketball team fell into a big hole early before its comeback fell short in a 75-60 loss to Holy Family in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Saturday afternoon in the Drubner Center.
Holy Family (3-9, 1-3 CACC) scored the first 16 points of the game before a layup by junior
Jessica Degree (Yonkers, N.Y.) put the Eagles on the board with 3:59 remaining in the first quarter. The Tigers would finish the quarter leading 22-6.
Degree had a solid performance off the bench scoring six points and grabbing nine rebounds for the Eagles.
The Eagles offense began to pick up in the second quarter as freshman
Melanie Polanco (Meriden, Conn.) scored five points and Haines, four before the hot shooting Tigers took a 49-22 lead into halftime. The Tigers went 7-for-18 from three-point land in the first half.
Post trailed by as much as 30 points (52-22) early in the third quarter before cutting the lead down to 12 at the 8:50 mark in the fourth after a 27-9 run. Haines had ten points during the run and sophomore
Meghan Gotham (Revere, Mass.) scored all eight of her points off the bench during the stretch.
However, it would be as close as the Eagles (6-6, 3-2 CACC) would get the rest of the way as Holy Family's shooting picked up in the fourth.
Senior
