Middleton Does It All As Eagles Top Franklin Pierce, 77-65

Waterbury, Conn. - Senior Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) stuffed the stat sheet, scoring 21 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out seven assists as the Post University women's basketball team topped Franklin Pierce, 77-65 in a non-conference game at the Drubner Center.

It is the third straight win for the Eagles who are now 6-5 overall on the season.

The two teams swapped leads 11 times in the first half with the Eagles going up by as much as seven points before going into halftime leading 34-32. Freshman Sha'Raya Haines (Springfield, Mass.) set the pace in the first ten minutes scoring seven points on 3-for-7 shooting including a three to give the Eagles a 16-15 lead heading into the second quarter.

Franklin Pierce scored the first four points of the second quarter as Freya Cooney hit back-to-back layups to give the Ravens a brief 19-16 lead before sophomore Hannah Benac (Boerne, Texas) buried a three for the Eagles to tie the game at 19 apiece with eight minutes left before halftime.

Both teams exchanged leads three more times on four consecutive possessions as Franklin Pierce took a 21-19 lead on a jumper from Sophia Holmes. Haines followed with a three to give the Eagles a 22-21 lead with 7:06 remaining before a layup by Holmes gave the Ravens the lead right back at 23-22. Senior Lauren Chambers (Lebanon, Pa.) hit a jumper to give the Eagles the lead for good as it sparked a 10-2 run to give Post a 32-25 lead with 2:40 left.



The Ravens took a brief 39-37 lead early in the third quarter, but Post went on a 14-5 run to take a 53-44 lead with 1:27 left. Middleton had six points during the run, including a three-pointer. Haines hit her final three of the game during the stretch.  Post took a 55-47 lead heading into the fourth. 

Post never relinquished the lead and led by as much as 14 points in the fourth as Middleton went 4-for-4 from the field including two three-pointers and finished with ten points in the final frame.



Haines finished with 18 points and six rebounds. Chambers finished with nine points as did junior Taylor Ceballos (Milford, Conn.) and freshman Melanie Polanco (Meriden, Conn.).

The Eagles bench outscored the Ravens, 14-12 and the Eagles won the battle for second chance points, 14-4.

Holmes finished with 21 points and seven rebounds, both game-highs for the Ravens (2-10).

Up next for the Eagles is a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference home game against Holy Family at 1 p.m. on January 5.
