Lugo Ties, Then Scores Game Winner In Eagles 5-4 OT Win Over Franklin Pierce

Winchendon, Mass. - Sophomore Evan Lugo (Sandy Hook, Conn.) tied the game late and scored a game winner early in overtime as the Post University men's hockey team defeated Franklin Pierce, 5-4 on Saturday evening.

Just 44 seconds into overtime, Lugo took a pass from junior Tyler Hackett (Branford, Conn.) and sophomore Anthony Giacomin (Drexel Hill, Pa.) and put a one-timer past goalie Ian Wallace as the Eagles improved to 4-10 on the season.

Lugo put the game into overtime at 17:59 in the third on assists from Giacomin and  sophomore Sean Castagna (Wilmington, Del.), tying the game at 4-4.

The Eagles got on the board first as Castagna blasted a shot into the back of the net on a pass from sophomores Kieran Hurley (Long Beach, N.Y.) and Jake Raleigh (Raleigh, N .C.).

Franklin Pierce scored three unanswered goals, as Alex Lester and Ryan Gorbett scored at 2:59 and 18:23 in the second period, respectively to give the Ravens a 2-1 lead. James Morrisey tacked on a power play goal at 5:37 in the third to give the Ravens a 3-1 lead.

Raleigh made it a 3-2 game as he walked the puck out of the right corner and took a shot at the top-right corner for the goal at 7:01. After Lester scored his second goal of the game - another power play - at 13:07, Post junior Noah Wild (Wading River, N.Y.) scored a power play goal of his own at 15:24 near the right post to cut the Ravens deficit to 4-3.

Freshman Joseph McLeod (Kelowna, British Columbia) had 22 saves for his second win on the season.

Up next for the Eagles is a home game against SNHU. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
