West Haven, Conn. - Freshman
Rylie Arms (Gilbert, Arizona) had 13 assists and senior
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) led all players with 41 assists, but the Post University women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to New Haven, 3-1 (25-14, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21) on Tuesday evening.
After dropping the first two sets, the Eagles led wire-to-wire in the third set. Senior
Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif.) had five kills in the set, Arms had four and and junior
Shannon Veale (Toms River, N.J.) and sophomore
Ashley Levatino (Holtsville, N.Y.) had three during the set. Root had assists on 13 of those kills.
The Eagles and Chargers played a tight first set as the Eagles led 14-11 before New Haven rattled off the final 14 points to win the set, 25-14. Senior
Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), Arms and Levatino each had two kills in the set.
In set two, the Eagles rallied from a 16-11 deficit to take a 20-18 lead after a 9-2 run. Arms had an ace and three kills during the run before the Chargers closed with a 7-2 run of their own.Â
In the fourth and final set, the Eagles (1-6) took a brief 4-3 lead until the Chargers were able to run away with the set, leading by as much as eight points (21-13).
Veale and Hunziker each finished with ten kills apiece. Sophomore
Suzy Boulay (Kingston, N.Y.) led all Eagles wih 17 digs.Â
Mallory Nowicki of New Haven (7-2) led all players with 15 kills. Kristine Rios had 13.
Up next for the Eagles is the Post Eagles Invitational, where they will take on NYIT and Bentley a 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
