Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Sergio Sanchez Puts Home OT Game-Winner As Men's Soccer Tops New Haven

Waterbury, Conn. – Sophomore Sergio Sanchez took a pass from classmate Francisco Perienelli and found the back of the net as the Post University men's soccer team defeated New Haven, 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

Sanchez took the pass from Perienelli and put the ball past Stefano Lorusso in the 95th minute to give their first win of the season.

The Eagles looked destined to win in regulation, but a handball inside the box resulted in a penalty kick for New Haven's Enrique Barboto, which he made to tie the game in the 88th minute.

After a New Haven goal from Alessandro Pappalardo gave the Chargers (0-2) a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute, the Eagles immediately answered as junior Sergio Diaz (Madrid, Spain) struck a bending 30 yard free kick that snuck in to the top left corner of the net to tie the game in the 25th minute, 1-1.

Not long after the game was tied, the Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the 27th minute as junior Matteo Moro (Rome, Italy) took a pass across the box from junior Eden Gendler (Israel) and buried the shot.

Fredrik Pedersen had three saves on the day for the Eagles and the Eagles outshot the Chargers, 17-9.

Up Next for the Eagles (1-1) is a non-conference matchup against Southern New Hampshire on September 5 at 5 p.m. at LaMoy Field.
