Eagles Clinch CACC North Title In Split With Concordia

Bronxville, N.Y.– The Post University baseball team clinched the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North title in a doubleheader split with Concordia. The 10-2 win in game one gave the Eagles the regular season division title. The Eagles dropped game two, 6-5.

The Eagles finished the regular season 28-20 and 20-12 in the CACC.

In game one, after falling behind 2-0 at the end of the first, the Eagles responded with a run of their own in the top of the third on an RBI double by junior John Cartagena Jr., (Danbury, Conn.) that scored freshman Danny Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.).

After adding a run in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2, junior John Russo (Bronx, N.Y.) gave the Eagles the lead for good in the top of the sixth with an RBI single that drove in freshman Connor Kolich (Mahwah, N.J.) giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead.

Kolich drove in a run of his own in the top of the seventh on an RBI single, and the Eagles put the game away in the eighth, highlighted by a two-run double by Di Marzo giving Post the 7-2 lead after the eighth.

For good measure, the Eagles put up three more runs in the top of the ninth, and used the long ball to do so as junior Rosario Missiti (Belmont, Mass.) hit his first home run of the year.

Di Marzo finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. Kolich finished the game 2-for-5 with a run. Senior Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run.

The pitching combination of freshman Noah Meeks (Danbury, Conn.) and junior Brett Pisaneschi (Westhampton, N.Y.) combined for ten strikeouts. Meeks got the win and is 2-2 on the season. Pisaneschi – who earned the save - only allowed one base runner in 3.1 innings and didn't allow a hit to go along with his five strikeouts.

In game two the Eagles fell behind 6-2 and a late inning rally in the top of the seventh fell just short in the 6-5 loss.

Down 3-0, freshman Mike Lisinicchia (Stamford, Conn.) hit his second homer of the season to left-center to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Clippers tacked on two runs in the third before freshman Travvis Ferguson (Nassau, Bahamas) hit an RBI single to score freshman Miguel DeLos Santos (Clifton, N.J.) to cut the Eagles deficit to 5-2.

After the Clippers (20-23, 16-14 CACC) scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles started their rally in the top of the seventh on a single by Di Marzo. Emigholz followed with a double. After an out, Ferguson drove in his second run of the game on an RBI single making it a 6-3 game. With two outs in the inning, junior Enzo Clemente (Plantation, Fla.) drove in his first two runs of the season with a two-run single to make it a 6-5 game. Unfortunately the rally fell short as Patrick Rivera got the last out for the Clippers.

Ferguson went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Lisinicchia went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.

The Eagles will play Goldey-Beacom in the first round of the CACC tournament at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury on May 5.
