Game Recap: Baseball |

Strike It From The Record: Esposito Fans 16 To Set School Mark In Doubleheader Sweep Of Jefferson

Waterbury, Conn.– Senior Enzo Esposito (Hamilton, N.J.) struck out 16 batters in game one to set a new Post University baseball team record as the Eagles swept Jefferson University 3-2 and 4-2 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Senior Day.

Esposito struck out the side three times in the game and had a strikeout in every inning in his 6.1 innings of work. The previous record was 14. Esposito is now second all-time in school history in strikeouts with 164.

Offensively, the Eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double by junior Rosario Missiti which scored freshman Connor Kolich (Mahwah, N.J.) in the bottom of the first. They added one more on a sacrifice fly by senior Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) in the bottom of the second that scored freshman Danny Di Marzo (Fishkill, N.Y.) to give Post a 2-0 lead.

Jefferson (16-27, 13-16 CACC) tied the game in the top of the third, highlighted by an RBI double by Chris Smith. It would be the only hit Esposito would allow.

However, the Eagles were able to take the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning as an RBI single from Emigholz scored junior John Russo (Bronx, N.Y.) to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead. Emigholz finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBI. Russo was 2-for-4 with a run.

Junior Brett Pisaneschi (East Quogue, N.Y.) earned his first save of the season, striking out three in 2.2 innings.

In game two, the Eagles used a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth to give them their sixth win in a row.

With the Eagles down 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, freshman Mike Lisinicchia (Stamford, Conn.) led off the inning with a shot to center field for a triple. Di Marzo followed with an RBI single to tie the game, 2-2. After two consecutive outs, senior Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) reached on an error that moved Di Marzo to third.

The Eagles took the lead as a wild pitch scored Di Marzo while junior John Cartagena Jr. (Danbury, Conn.) was at the plate. Then Cartagena Jr. reached on an error, giving the Eagles an insurance run as Wright came to the plate to make a 4-2 game.

Post's first run of the game came on an RBI single by Lisinicchia that scored Missiti to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Starter Noah Meeks struck out five in five innings for the Eagles. Freshman Makhi Booker (Montclair, N.J.) got the win – his first of the year - pitching two innings of one hit ball, striking out one. Sophomore Tyler Boisvert (Prospect, Conn.) earned the save, striking out four in two innings of relief.

The Eagles are now 24-18 overall and 16-10 in the CACC, putting them in first place in the North Division. The team returns to action on Sunday as they take on Chestnut Hill at home in a CACC doubleheader.
