WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team's home opener was spoiled on Saturday afternoon with a 16-7 loss to Queens. Junior
Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) scored three goals in the game.
The Eagles hung with the Knights for most of the first half. After falling behind 2-0, senior
Savannah Schwack (Manorville, N.Y.) put home her first of two goals on the day. Deren added her first goal on a free-position shot with 17:04 to play until halftime.
Sophomore
Jaylene Souto (Middletown, R.I.) scored later in the first to trim the deficit to 5-3. Queens opened it largest lead of the half at 8-3 with 5:24 to go. Deren and freshman
Sydney Hogan (Northford, Conn.) each scored to pull the Eagles within three. The Knights added two late goals to head into the break in front 10-5.
Deren found Schwack for a goal to start the second half, but the Eagles would score just once more the rest of the way.
Post recorded season-highs in shots (23), shots on goal (17), ground balls (22), and caused turnovers (10). Deren and freshman goaltender
Noreen Donnelly (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the way with five ground balls each. Donnelly also had a season-best 12 saves.
The Eagles head south for spring break as they play Kutztown on Monday, March 12 in Hilton Head, S.C. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
