Boyd OT Jumper Leads Post Over Georgian Court 84-83

Eagles score four points in final 12 seconds for win

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – A jumper by freshman Darrick Boyd (Springfield, Mass.) with two seconds remaining in overtime led the Post University men's basketball team to an 84-83 victory over Georgian Court on Saturday afternoon at the GCU Wellness Center in Lakewood, N.J. Post improves to 7-15 overall and 6-7 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.

The Eagles led by four points early in the extra period, but a 9-2 run by the Lions gave them an 83-80 advantage with just 23 seconds left. Junior Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) nailed a jumper on Post's next possession to pull the Eagles within one. Out of a Post timeout, senior Jason Nunez (Harlem, N.Y.) stole the ball leading to Boyd's game-winning shot.

Late heroics by Boyd helped lead Post into overtime as the Eagles trailed 72-69 with 13 ticks left in regulation. Boyd was fouled as he made a layup in the closing seconds and drained the free-throw to knot the game 72-72. He finished 9-of-9 from the line scoring 21 points.

The game was close throughout with neither team leading by more than eight points. Post pulled in front 10-2 out of the game until a 9-0 run by Georgian Court put the home team ahead by one. The teams traded leads through the remainder of the half, but a late three-pointer put the Lions ahead 36-35 at the break.

After trailing for most of the second half, Post used a 14-4 run to jump in front 62-59 with 5:00 to play. Senior Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) scored 11 of his game-high 30 points during the run. The Lions took the lead back with 2:10 left and led until the final sequence.

Okros finished with a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Joseph Lockwood (London, England) added 11 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Post dominated the offensive glass, holding a 17-5 advantage in offensive boards and second chance points. Total rebounds were fairly even at 44-42 in favor of the Eagles.

Post returns home on Wednesday night for a key CACC North Division matchup against Felician. Tip-off at Drubner is set for 7:30 p.m.
