Philadelphia, Pa. – Graduate student Jasmyne Fogle (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored 13 points, but a second half comeback fell short in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to #13 USciences, 67-56 on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles trailed by 51-42 heading into the final quarter, but went on a 10-4 run over the first 4:54 to cut the deficit to 55-52. Fogle and junior Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) both hit three-pointers during the stretch. However, a 12-4 run from the Devils put the game out of reach for the Eagles.
Early on the Eagles (5-16, 4-11 CACC) fell behind 12-4 in the first quarter before finishing the quarter on a 7-0 run to end the quarter as the Devils led 12-11. Four different players scored during the run.
Fogle hit two three-pointers in the second quarter, but USciences (23-2, 15-1 CACC) extended their lead to six points at 32-26 heading into the half. Deren hit her second three of the game in the quarter.
The Eagles dominated on the boards against the Devils, outrebounded 39-28, including 18 offensive. Those 18 offensive boards led to 11 second-chance points. The Eagles also outscored the Devils in the paint, 20-18.
Junior Kiana Nichols (Newburgh, N.Y.) had 12 points for the Eagles and went 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Classmate Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) had eight points and a team-high ten rebounds.
Sarah Abbonzio led all USciences players in scoring with 17 points. Laura Trisch had 11 points and ten rebounds.
Up next for the Eagles is a CACC road game at Dominican on Feb. 13. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
