Chambers Scores 15 And Deren Hits Late Three As Eagles Top Dominican, 56-51

Orangeburg, N.Y. – Junior Lauren Chambers (Lebanon, Pa.) scored 15 points and classmate Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) hit a late three as the Post University women's basketball team defeated Dominican, 56-51 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Tuesday afternoon.

With the Chargers leading 49-48 with 1:59 left in a back and forth fourth quarter Deren took a pass from junior Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) and hit her third and most important three-pointer of the game to give the Eagles a 51-49 lead. Deren would then hit two free-throws on the next possession followed by two more from Chambers and one from Middleton to seal the victory.

The win snapped a brief two game losing streak for the Eagles who are now 6-16 overall and 5-11 in the CACC. The Eagles are now a game and a half behind Felician for the final CACC playoff spot in the North Division.

Post took a 13-12 lead after the first quarter as graduate student Jasmyne Fogle (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored five points to lead the Eagles after the first ten minutes.

The Eagles extended their lead to four points at 27-23 at the half as Chambers scored eight points, including the final four points in the quarter. Middleton contributed four points in the quarter.

Dominican outscored the Eagles 13-8 in the third to take a one point lead at 36-35 before the fourth quarter drama. The Chargers twice led by four points in the quarter, but the Eagles were able to answer both times.

Deren finished the game with 13 points, Fogle finished with 11 and freshman Meaghan Gotham (Revere, Mass.) had 15 rebounds.

The Eagles dominated on the boards, outrebounding Dominican 49-40, including 19 offensive rebounds. Those offensive rebounds led to ten second chance points for the Eagles. There were 16 lead changes and five ties in the game.
