Polanco Scores 21; Eagles Have Big Fourth Quarter In 78-58 Win Over Caldwell

Waterbury, Conn. - Freshman Melanie Polanco (Meriden, Conn.) scored 21 points - including 11 in the fourth - and junior Taylor Ceballos (Milford, Conn.) scored 20 as the Eagles used a big fourth quarter to defeat Caldwell, 78-58 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match on Wednesday afternoon.

The win puts the Eagles at 5-5 for the season and 3-1 in the CACC. They are currently in second place in the North Division.

Post took a 49-43 lead after the third quarter and freshman Sha'Raya Haines (Springfield, Mass.) led the charge in the beginning of the fourth, scoring the first six points of the quarter. She hit a three to open up the quarter, followed by a layup and free-throw to give the Eagles a 55-44 lead with 9:02 remaining. 

After Caldwell cut the deficit to 57-49, Polanco hit back-to-back threes to to give the Eagles a 63:49 lead with 5:34 left. Caldwell (2-8, 2-1 CACC) would get no closer than 13 points the rest of the way as Post went 5-for-9 from three-point land in the fourth.



The game was tight through the first three quarters as the teams were tied at 17-17 after the first frame. Haines scored seven points in the quarter and the Eagles held a 15-8 lead before the Cougars closed the period with a 9-2 run.

Haines finished with 18 points and five rebounds. Polanco grabbed eight boards to go along with her game-high 21 points. Ceballos went 7-for-8 from the field.

Post took a 30-27 lead going into the half as senior Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Jessica DeGree (Yonkers, N.Y.) each scored four points in the quarter.

The Eagles scored 21 second chance points on 22 offensive rebounds.

Post takes a two week break before its next game as the Eagles take on Franklin Pierce in a non-conference game on January 2 at the Drubner Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
