Men's Ice Hockey jumped out to an early lead after Kieran Hurley scored the first and only goal of period one. For Hurley, it was his second goal in only three games this season.
Noah Wild, who assisted on Hurley's goal, would also assist on the second goal of the game, scored by Evan Lugo. Lugo sits atop the team in points after three games with six.
The Eagles committed five second period penalties which would prove costly after Daniel Backstrom of Westfield scored a power play goal to cut the lead in half.
No more than four minutes later the Eagles converted on their own power play goal, this time from Anthony Giacomin. Giacomin leads the team in goals (3) and has scored at least one point in all three games this season.
More than half of the nine total goals scored in game took place in the third period. Westfield struck first to bring it back to a one goal game but Noah Wild extended the lead back to two goals, at 4-2, by converting on his first goal of the season. Christopher Harris followed in Wild's footsteps by also scoring his first goal of the season, extending the Post lead to 5-2. Westfield State tacked on two more goals towards the end of the period but did not have enough to complete a comeback.
Joseph McLeod was credited the first win of his freshmen season after stopping 51 of 55 total shots put on net in 60 minutes of play. Head coach Peter Whitney credits his defense for helping limit the quality of looks on net by Westfield
"We played a very good and physical team tonight. We were able to match their intensity and our defenseman were able to limit quality shots." Whitney added, "We got scoring from 5 different veteran forwards who stepped up for us tonight."
Post lost the overall faceoff battle (32-34) but had a standout effort by Anthony Giacomin who won 9 of 12 faceoffs
