Bloomfield, N.J. – Three players scored in double figures, and the Eagles had an early lead, but the Post University women's basketball team dropped a Central Athletic Collegiate Conference game to Bloomfield, 77-56 on Tuesday evening.
For the second straight game, junior Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) led all Eagles in scoring with 15 points off of the bench.
With the Eagles (2-13, 1-8 CACC) behind 11-4 early in the first quarter, the Eagles rattled off a 16-6 run over the final 5:42, hitting four three-pointers during the stretch. Deren hit both of her three pointers during the stretch. Junior Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) and classmate Lauren Chambers (Lebanon, Pa.) also hit one to give Post a 20-17 lead at the end of the first quarter..
Bloomfield (7-9, 7-2 CACC) started the second quarter with a 15-0 run before the Eagles were able to cut their deficit to 38-29 heading in to the half.
A 12-6 run to start the third quarter with bookend three-pointers from freshman Katelyn Andres (North Bergen, N.J.) and Middleton cut Bloomfield's lead to 44-40 with 5:28 left. However, back-to-back threes from Bloomfield's Bobbi Floyd and Jahniece Jaffe gave Bloomfield a 53-42 lead as the Bears would lead by double digits the rest of the way to hold on to the win.
Middleton and Andres both finished with 11 points and four rebounds. Chambers grabbed eight rebounds to lead all Eagles.
The Eagles bench outscored Bloomfield, 23-20. The Eagles had 14 offensive rebounds and 14 second chance points.
Floyd finished with 29 points on 12-for-13 shooting for Bloomfield. Zhane Robinson had 20 points.
