LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Post University women's lacrosse team closed out its season on a high note Saturday morning with a 15-8 victory over Felician. Freshman
Leona Stevens (Kingston, Mass.) and junior
Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) each scored five times in the win.
Deren scored the first three goals of the day, two on free-position attempts, as the Eagles grabbed control early. After two goals by the Golden Falcons, Deren extended the lead out to 4-2. Felician answered immediately as Post called a timeout ahead 4-3 with 19:56 to go in the first.
Out of the break, the Eagles took momentum away as they put up six straight tallies to jump ahead 10-3. Stevens had four goals and senior
Nicole Evans (Cortland, N.Y.) added two during the stretch. Post led 10-5 at the half.
Freshman
Rose Varrone (Staten Island, N.Y.) added two goals early in the second half to extend the advantage to 13-5. Felician was able to trim the lead to seven, but could not get closer as Post rolled to its second victory of the year.
Post tied a season-high with 15 goals and had a season-best 44 shots, including 38 on target. The Eagles won the ground ball battle 20-15, led by Evans who scooped up four. Deren also added two assists, three caused turnovers, and three ground balls.
