Eagles Lacrosse Earns 11-7 Victory Over AIC

Post improves to 1-1 on the young season

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Post University men's lacrosse team won its first game of the season on Wednesday afternoon 11-7 over American International at Abdow Field in Springfield, Mass. Senior Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) had a goal and three assists in the victory.

The Eagles struck first early in the opening quarter as Blackman found junior Frank Nichols Jr. (Oceanside, Calif.) to put Post in front 1-0. AIC answered back as the teams were tied 1-1 after the first. Each team had six shots in the period.

Post grabbed control of the game with a five-goal second quarter. Senior Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) and junior Kyle Hewlett (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored just 22 second apart as the Eagles jumped ahead 3-1 at the 12:14 mark.

Freshman Corey Auten (Stratford, Conn.) scored his first-career goal later in as the Eagles pulled in front by 4-1. Goals by seniors Paul Hylan (Clinton, Conn.) and Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) gave Post a five-goal lead before two late Yellow Jacket tallies made the game 6-3 at halftime.

American International pulled with two early in the second half and looked to have an advantage after a penalty by the Eagles. It was Post that had the advantage as senior Jack Kearney (Sandy Hook, Conn.) scored with a man down extending the Eagles' lead to 7-4. The teams traded goals the rest of the third and Post led 9-6.

After an early score by the Yellow Jackets, Post put the game away with two late goals by Kearney and McDermott.

AIC held a slim 38-37 advantage in shots, but the Eagles were much more accurate with a 28-18 margin in shots on goal. Buchas and freshman Ben Price (Eden Prairie, Minn.) led Post with three ground balls each. Price also had two caused turnovers. Senior goalkeeper Shane Trost (Rochester, N.Y.) made 11 saves.

Post returns home on Saturday, March 4 against Franklin Pierce. Face-off at LaMoy Field is set for 1 p.m.
