Eagles Battle With Bloomfield, But Lose, 68-55

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University women's basketball team stood toe to toe with the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's best, but fell short in a 68-55 loss to Bloomfield Tuesday night at the Drubner Center.

Sophomore Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) led the way for the Eagles in scoring with 11 points. Freshman Taylor Ceballos (Milford, Conn.) had ten points and just missed out on a double-double as she grabbed nine rebounds.

After being down 32-28 at halftime, the Eagles (2-22, 2-14 CACC) started the third quarter on a 15-6 run to take a 43-38 lead with 2:27 left in the quarter. Senior Shontera Williams (Marksville, La.) was a force on both ends during the stretch, scoring three points and blocking three shots. The Bears closed out on a 10-0 run to take a five point lead into the fourth.

In the fourth, the Eagles twice cut the deficit to two points, but couldn't get over the hump as the Bears were able to pull away over the final five minutes of the game.

Post led 16-12 after a back and forth first quarter, where the teams traded the lead five times. The Eagles closed on a 9-3 run, capped by a layup from Ceballos at the buzzer on a great find by senior Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.).

It wouldn't be the only buzzer beater for the Eagles on the night as Middleton buried a corner three-pointer on a pass from senior Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) to cut Post's deficit to 32-28 heading into the half.

Williams finished the game with seven points and four blocks.

Tiana Smith of Bloomfield led all players in scoring with 26 points. She hit 13 of her 17 free throw attempts. Zhane Robinson had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Bloomfield is now 17-6 on the season and 14-1 in the CACC.

The Eagles bench outscored Bloomfield, 25-12. Ten different players scored for the Eagles.

Up next for the Eagles is an out-of-conference home game, as they take on No. 14 Adelphi on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
