WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team was defeated at home by Bloomfield 76-65 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division battle at Drubner Center on Tuesday night. The Eagles fall to 9-14 overall and 8-8 in conference play with just three games remaining.
Junior
Levy Gillespie (Meriden, Conn.) posted a career-high in points for the second straight game with 18 on the night. Classmate
Joseph Lockwood (London, England) was 6-of-7 from the field, scoring 12 points to go with seven rebounds.
Bloomfield jumped out to an 11-6 lead early on before back-to-back buckets by Gillespie gave the Eagles their first lead of the night at 13-11 with 11:44 remaining in the half. After a miss from distance by the Bears, junior
Naasir Williams (Harlem, N.Y.) nailed a three. Williams stole the ball back on Bloomfield's next possession and went the distance for an easy layup as Post stretched in front 23-15, its largest lead of the game.
The Eagles led by eight with 4:32 remaining in the first half, but a 13-4 run by the Bears to close the half put the visitors in front 32-31 at the break.
The teams traded baskets to open the second half before junior
Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) and senior
Malcolm Amos (Brookport, Ill.) scored on back-to-back trips down the floor to give Post a 37-36 lead early.
Marcus Fleming caught fire for the Bears in the second half. He scored 15 of his game-high 23 points during a 19-6 burst by Bloomfield extend the lead out to 55-43 with 10:23 left in regulation.
Post answered with a 13-3 run of its own from there to cut the deficit to just two points. Junior
Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) and Gillespie each had six points during the stretch.
The Eagles were unable to draw closer as Bloomfield quickly scored eight straight to build the lead back to double-digits with just over three minutes left and rolled the rest of the way. Post had a season-high seven blocked shots on the night led by Amos with four swats.
Wilmington comes to town on Saturday, Feb. 11 in the Eagles final home game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
