Eagles Come Back From 14-Point Deficit To Beat Dominican, 56-52

Orangeburg, N.Y. – Senior Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds, as the Post University women's basketball team came back from an early 14 point deficit to defeat Dominican, 56-52 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference road game on Wednesday evening.

The win boosts Post's record to 3-23 overall and 3-15 in the CACC.

Down 43-42 entering the fourth quarter, the Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 run to begin the final frame to take a 49-43 lead as Jones scored the first four points of the quarter, followed by a three-pointer by classmate Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.).

Over the next five minutes, the Chargers would go on a 9-2 run of their own, capped by a jumper from Rebecca Rabeiro with 2:16 left in the game. However, that jumper would be the last points the Chargers would score.

Acklin would tie the game with a free-throw with 1:50 left to tie the game and sophomore Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) would give the Eagles the lead with two clutch free-throws with 1:09 left to give the Eagles a 54-52 lead. The Eagles were able to make a final defensive stand as Rabeiro missed a game-tying jumper with four seconds left as Acklin grabbed the rebound. Freshman Taylor Ceballos (Milford, Conn.) would seal the win with two free-throws in the final second.

In the first quarter, the Eagles fell behind 21-7 with 2:10 remaining in the quarter and would trail 25-13 heading into the second. The defense would right the ship holding Dominican to just three points in the second quarter, a season low for an opponent, and the Eagles would go up 29-28 heading to the half. Jones had seven points in the half and Ceballos had six points to pace the Eagles.

Acklin finished with 11 points in the game. Junior Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.) had a solid all-around game, scoring ten points, grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out four assists. Ceballos finished with eight points.

The Eagles cracked the 50 percent mark shooting, going 20-for-40 from the field. The Eagles outrebounded the Chargers, 31-24.

Rabeiro led the Chargers in scoring with 19 points. Lisa Bouffard chipped in with ten points.

Up next for the Eagles is their final game of the regular season as they take on Concordia in a CACC road game on February 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
