Bronxville, N.Y. – The Post University women's basketball team's comeback from a 14 point deficit fell one point short as it lost its final game of the season, 70-69 to Concordia in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss the Eagles finished their season 3-24 and 3-16 in the CACC.
Down 60-47 early in the fourth, the Eagles gradually plucked away at the deficit. With 8:56 remaining in the game, senior
Shontera Williams (Marksville, La.) made a layup, was fouled and made the free throw to make it a 60-50 game. On the next possession for Post freshman
Taylor Ceballos (Milford, Conn.) made a layup to cut the deficit to eight points. Williams again would make a big play, taking an outlet pass off of a rebound by classmate
Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) and making another layup to make it a 60-54 game with 6:51 left.
After the teams traded baskets over the next few minutes, junior
Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.) hit a jumper with 3:10 left to cut the score to 66-63. After a basket by Concordia's Paige Corkins, Ceballos made a free-throw to cut it to four points. Then, the Eagles made it really interesting. With 2:20 remaining, Acklin stole the ball from Nicole Nicholson and fed it to junior
Abriana Diana (Hartford, Conn.) to make it a two point-deficit (68-66). Acklin would then add a free throw to make it a one-point game, the closest the Eagles had gotten since the first quarter.
A layup by Hadiyah Black of Concordia and two free-throws by Jones made it a 70-69 game. However, on the Eagles final possession a layup by Jones fell short at the final buzzer, giving Concordia the win.
Concordia led by as much as 14 points in the first half before the Eagles were able to make their second half run. The Eagles led once in the game at 15-14 after a three-pointer by Acklin with 3:48 left in the first quarter.
Jones had a great final game of her Post career, scoring 20 points and grabbing ten rebounds. Ceballos had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Acklin had 19 points and six assists.
Jessica Rosalbo led all scorers with 33 points on 11-for-19 shooting.
Post outrebounded Concordia, 41-36. The Eagles were 19-for-24 from the free-throw line.
