Bronxville, N.Y. – Freshman Daja Polk (Fairfield, Conn.) hit two free throws with four seconds left and the Post University Eagles defense didn't allow a shot off at the buzzer as the women's basketball team won its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game of the season against Concordia 60-58 on Saturday afternoon.
After a layup from freshman Meaghan Gotham (Revere, Mass.) gave the Eagles a 58-55 lead with 42 seconds left, Concordia's Julianne Wilkinson answered with a three five seconds later to tie the game. On the ensuing possession after a timeout by Post, Taylor Scruggs fouled Polk to set her up for the dramatic free throws at the end of the game.
Graduate student Jasmyne Fogle (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored 22 points and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line to go along with eight rebounds to pace the Eagles.
A three-point lead (44-41) heading into the fourth for the Eagles evaporated quickly as the Clippers scored the first seven points of the quarter before the Eagles went on an 8-1 run on their own to take a 52-49 lead. Freshman Katelyn Andres (North Bergen, N.J.) scored all six of her points during the game changing run for Post.
The teams played a tightly contested first half as went into the break tied at 32-32. Concordia (0-10, 0-3) took a brief ten point lead at 26-16 before Fogle scored the next ten points for the Eagles during a 10-1 run to cut their deficit to 27-26 with 2:46 left. She would then give the Eagles its first second quarter lead at 30-29 with 1:54 remaining in the half.
Gotham finished with ten points and eight rebounds for the Eagles (2-4, 1-1 CACC). Junior Lauren Chambers (Lebanon, Pa.) had seven points and eight rebounds.
The Eagles were stellar from the free-throw line, going 17-for-23. They outscored Concordia in points off of turnovers (19-14) and second chance points (15-3).
Nicole Nicholson and Scruggs each led the Clippers with 12 points apiece.
Up next for the Eagles is a non-conference home matchup against Saint Anselm at 4 p.m. on December 17.
