Waterbury, Conn. – Freshman Katelyn Andres (North Bergen, N.J.) scored a career high 19 points and junior Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) had 15 points and six assists, but the Post University women's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game to Nyack on Tuesday night, 73-70.
After falling behind 23-15 early in the second quarter, the Eagles went on an 11-0 run – including nine straight from Middleton – to take a 26-23 lead with 7:17 remaining in the half. The two teams would trade lead five more times in the half before freshman Meaghan Gotham (Revere, Mass.) scored the final four points for the Eagles to give them a slim 38-36 lead at the break.
Post (2-6, 1-2 CACC) stayed hot in the beginning of the third quarter as they extended their lead to nine points at 49-40, capped by a jumper from senior Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.) with 6:27 remaining. An 11-2 run from the Warriors tied the game at 51-51 before the Eagles went on their second 11-0 run of the game over the last 2:39 of the quarter. The Eagles hit three three-pointers during the stretch, including two from junior Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.).
The Eagles grew their lead to as much as 14 points after two free-throws from Andres with 7:59 remaining before Nyack mounted a comeback to take a 66-65 lead with 4:29 left. Nyack's lead didn't last long at the time as Middleton hit a three to give the Eagles the lead at 68-66.
With the game tied at 69-69, Nyack's Bryanna Brown hit a three to give the Warriors the lead for good at 72-69 with 1:48 left. The Eagles had one more opportunity with 39 seconds left, but a three-pointer fell short.
Gotham finished the game with a double-double scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Deren and Childs-Harris each had eight points off the bench. The Eagles shot 8-for-21 from deep and outrebounded Nyack 39-36. The Eagles bench was dominant, outscoring Nyack's 22-8.
Brown led all Warriors (2-11, 2-2) in scoring with 25 points. Japria Karim-Duvall had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Eagles get an extended holiday break before taking on Dominican in a CACC home game on December 30 at 1 p.m.
