Fogle Stars With 38 Points, But Eagles Drop Opener To UDC, 75-71

Washington, D.C. – Grad student Jasmyne Fogle (Bridgeport, Conn.) had a stellar first game in a Post uniform with 38 points and 16 rebounds, but the Eagles women's basketball team dropped its season opener, 75-71 the University of District of Columbia.
 
The game was tight all game long with the lead changing hands 17 times to go with nine ties, with no one leading by more than nine points during the game.
 
Post trailed by seven points at 61-54 with 7:49 left in the game before going on a 15-7 run over the next 4:02 to take a 69-68 lead, capped by two free throws by Fogle who had nine points during the run.
 
However, the Eagles mustered one more field goal over the rest of the game and UDC was able to finish the game with a 7-2 run for the win.
 
Both teams were tied 14-14 at the end of the first quarter as freshman Meaghan Gotham (Revere, Mass.) scored the first four points of the game for the Eagles. Fogle had led the Eagles with six in the quarter. The teams remained close at the half as UDC took a 31-29 lead at the break. Fogle had 15 points at the break. Gotham and junior Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) and freshman Brittany Whitley (Fort Washington, MD.) each had four.
 
Gotham would finish with ten points in the game, followed by Middleton who had eight.
 
Daeja Quick led all UDC scorers with 19 points. Desiree Gaeckler had 11.
 
The Eagles were stellar from the free-throw line, going 21-for-30. The Eagles also outscored UDC 27-23 in points off of turnovers.
 
Up next for the Eagles is their first home game as they take on Pace in an out of conference game on November 18 at 1 p.m.
