Eagles Fall to Georgian Court 3-2 in CACC Quarterfinals

Post eliminated in quarterfinals for first time since 2013

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball season came to a close on Wednesday night as the Eagles fell to Georgian Court 3-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Quarterfinals at the Drubner Center.
 
Ahead 2-1 in the match, the Eagles trailed 12-4 in the fourth set after an 8-0 run by the Lions. Two blocks by sophomore Ann Marie Nelson (Draper, Utah) helped Post to four straight points to cut the deficit to 14-11. The Eagles continued to chip away at the deficit and tied the set 24-24 after a kill by junior Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif.), but with the score knotted at 25, Georgian Court scored the final two points to send the match to a fifth set.
 
Post jumped out to an 8-7 lead to begin the fifth set before a 4-0 run put the Lions in front 11-8. The Eagles were able to close the gap to one, but could not get any closer as they fell 15-13.
 
The Eagles led 18-13 in the opening set before allowing the Lions to tie the score at 18-18. Hunziker had two straight aces down the stretch as Post pull out a 25-20 victory to open the night.
 
Post looked like it was going to pull in front 2-0 in the match as it led the second set 24-20 after an error by the Lions. Georgian Court scored the final five points to take a 26-24 win and tie the match 1-1.
 
The Eagles trailed early in the third set before a 7-2 run tied the score 13-13. Both teams traded shots from there until the Lions led 21-19. Post scored six of the final seven points to take the set 25-22 and pull ahead 2-1 in the match.
 
Hunzkier led the Eagles with 18 kills and six block assists. Junior Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) added 17 kills, 12 digs, and five aces. Freshman Ashley Levatino (Holtsville, N.Y.) capped the year with a season-best 16 kills to go with three blocks.
 
Junior Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) added 59 assists and 17 digs. Senior Sarah Ryder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) had 14 digs.
