Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University women's soccer team came back from a three goal deficit, but gave up a goal late, losing 4-3 to Holy Family in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at LaMoy Field on Sunday afternoon.
After giving up three first half goals to go down 3-0 after the first 45 minutes, the Eagles answered immediately as freshman
Erika Quinones (Bridgeport, Conn.) put home her first goal of the season in the 46th minute. Sophomore
Fitore Kllobocishta (Watertown, Conn.) took a shot just inside the box that was stopped by Holy Family goalkeeper Emily Camp. The ball bounced back out to Quinones who put it into an open net from 25 yards out to make it a 3-1 game.Â
A handball inside the box helped secure Post's second goal of the game as senior
Katharina Mertz (Buxtehude, Germany) put home the penalty shot in the 66th minute to make it a 3-2 game.
The relentless Eagles (3-9, 3-4 CACC) offensive attack didn't stop there, as in the 78th minute Kllbocishta put a shot past Camp who came out of the net to try and stop the rush by Post.
However, Holy Family was able to take the lead in the 85th minute as Stefani Ulmer and Brianna Rock played a little give and go action down the field ending with Ilmer putting home her second goal of the game. Ulmer also scored in the 22nd minute to make it a 1-0 game.Â
Holy Family (10-3, 7-1 CACC) also scored in the 26th minute on a goal from Shannon Metzler from 30 yards out and added one in the 44th minute by Alexa Teschko to make it a 3-0 game.
Holy Family outshot Post 17-12, but the Eagles had the edge in the second half, 11-7. Kllobocishta led all Eagles in shots with three. Freshmen
Hannah Richards (Huddersfield, England) and
Imelda Lazaro (Norwalk, Conn.) combined for seven saves on the day for the Eagles.
Up next for Post is a CACC road game at Dominican on October 10 at 3 p.m.
