WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University sprint football team was defeated by Franklin Pierce 28-0 at LaMoy Field on Saturday afternoon in the annual Talon Cup game. The Eagles fall to 0-3 on the season.
Kobie Smith broke a 41-yard run on the Ravens' first possession of the game to put the visitors in front 7-0. The Eagles offense was unable to get anything going in the first quarter, but the defense forced a turnover on downs after a Franklin Pierce touchdown was called back to keep the game within a score.
Franklin Pierce extended its lead to 14-0 as Jared Lubas found Tionne Brown for a 26-yard score early in the second.
The Eagles best drive of the game came midway through the second as they drove deep into Ravens' territory. Starting on their own 25-yard line junior
Buddy Enriquez (Sacramento, Calif.) found freshman
Tory Hammonds for an 11-yard and 16-yard first down. Freshman
Golden Borden (New Orleans, La.) caught an 11-yard pass to put the Eagles on the Ravens' six-yard line. An interception in the end zone ended the threat.
Franklin Pierce rushed for 71 yards on the opening drive of the third quarter to make the score 21-0. Post looked to end the shutout on its next drive, but a 25-yard field goal was missed wide left. The Ravens nine-play 80-yard dive to make the score 28-0 as the fourth quarter began.
A 36-yard rush by freshman
Luis Medina (Bristol, Conn.) set the Eagles up deep in Franklin Pierce territory. Post was able to get down to the 11-yard line before a pass by sophomore running back
Khaliq Little (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was intercepted on a trick play with 10:48 to go. The Eagles were unable to get onto the visitor's side of the field the rest of the afternoon.
Medina finished the game with a season-high 50 yards on the ground. Enriquez threw for 71 yards while freshman
David Mosley (Bridgeton, N.J.) tossed for 67 yards through the air. Freshman
Alex Galarza (Middletown, N.Y.) caught three passes for a team-high 49 yards. Borden added three receptions for 34 yards.
Sophomore
Quenntin Thompson (Amityville, N.Y.) led the defense with 11 tackles. Junior
Matthew Terlizzi (Watertown, Conn.) including two for a loss. Freshman
Cameron Francette (Baytown, Texas) made the Eagles only sack of the day and finished with four tackles.
Post finishes it three-game homestand next Saturday against Navy, Kickoff at LaMoy Field is set for 12 p.m.
