Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) had 26 points and seven rebounds, and classmate
Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) had 23 points and 12 rebounds, but the Post University women's basketball team lost to Holy Family in overtime, 87-85 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon.
Down 73-71 with 1:15 left in regulation, Jones hit two free throws followed by a layup by junior
Abriana Diana (Hartford, Conn.) to give the Eagles a 75-73 lead with 28 seconds left. Abigail Iannotti would then tie the game with a layup with 19 seconds left. In Post's final possession, Acklin missed a jumper, sending the game into overtime.
With the game tied, 82-82 in overtime, Elizabeth Radley and Casey Thomas made layups in the final minute to put the game out of reach in the end. The Eagles led early on in overtime after a layup and free-throw by Jones gave Post a 78-75 lead.
The Eagles took control early on in the game, jumping out to a 14-4 lead with Acklin scoring six points during the run. Junior
Sierra Green (Austin, Texas), also continued her hot shooting from deep, hitting a three-pointer during the run. The Eagles would lead 22-14 at the end of the first quarter.
A 15-5 run over the first six minutes of the second quarter gave Holy Family a 29-27 lead, but it was brief. Back-to-back three pointers by Diana and Green put the Eagles up 33-29 with 2:10 remaining. A three-pointer by junior
Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.) with three seconds left in the half would give the Eagles a 40-31 lead going into the locker room.
Diana finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Green was 4-for-9 from three-point land and finished with 12 points.
Jill Conroy finished with 28 points and eight assists. Iannotti had 20 points. Radley had 20 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
