Green, Ceballos, Lead Eagles to 67-62 Win Over Nyack

Waterbury, Conn.– Junior Sierra Green (Austin, Texas) scored 16 points and freshman Taylor Ceballos (Milford, Conn.) scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Post University women's basketball team defeated Nyack, 67-62 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at the Drubner Center Tuesday evening.

With the win, the Eagles are 2-18 on the season and 2-10 in the CACC.

All of Green's nine field goal attempts were from three-point range, as she hit a career-high five. Ceballos made Nyack (3-14, 2-9 CACC) pay for sending her to the free-throw line, hitting 12 of 14 from the stripe.

After being down 19-13, towards the end of the first quarter, Green went on her own 9-3 run against the Warriors, hitting three straight three pointers -  one to end the first quarter and two to begin the second - to tie the game up at 22-22 with 8:17 remaining in the first half.

Nyack closed out on a 15-7 run to take a 37-29 lead at the break.

The Eagles best quarter of the season came in the third, as they scored the first nine points in the third to tie the game at 37-37. Green hit another three-pointer in the stretch and Ceballos scored six, including going 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. After Nyack briefly took the lead back on a free-throw from Kelli Smoot, the Eagles would close on an 11-6 run - capped by another three from Green - to give them a 49-44 lead heading into the fourth.

The Eagles wouldn't relinquish the lead in the fourth and led by as much as 11 in the quarter. Ceballos was big down the stretch, scoring 10 points in the final 3:17 to preserve the win for the Eagles.

Ceballos wasn't the only one getting to the line as seniors Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) and Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) each went 6-for-9 from the free-throw line. The team went 28-for-44. The Eagles also outrebounded the Warriors, 47-42.

Jones finished her night with 14 points and nine rebounds. Acklin had a fantastic all-around game, scoring eight points, grabbing eight rebounds to go along with six assists.

Tayelor McCalister led the way for Nyack with 23 points and ten rebounds.

Up next for the Eagles is another CACC home game on January 28 against Holy Family at 1 p.m.
