NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior
Abdallah Bah (St. Paul, Minn.) scored a goal and dished out an assist as the Post University men's soccer team open the year with a 2-0 victory over Bentley at the Merrimack Kickoff Classic on Thursday.
"We didn't play as well as we are capable of in the first half, but really found our rhythm in the second. Our back four was very good all day and helped us create chances offensively. We are going to need to continue to stay focused against a good Merrimack side on Saturday," said head coach
Ted Haley.
The Eagles controlled play from start to finish as they outshot the Falcons 18-1 on the day. Sophomore
Matteo Moro (Rome, Italy) nearly put Post in front early as his shot hit the crossbar. Bah headed home a cross from senior
Patrick DeAngelo (Danbury, Conn.) in the 32
nd minute as Post went ahead 1-0.
Junior
Armando Filho (Cataguases, Brazil) added the final goal for the Eagles in the 53
rd minute. Bah connected with a cross from the top of the box and Filho finished in the bottom-left corner of the net.
Senior goalkeeper
Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) recorded a clean sheet as he made a save on Bentley's only shot on goal. Seven Eagles tallied two shots each, Bah, Filho, and freshman
Gabriel Aguilar (Stamford, Conn.) each had two shots on net.
Post returns to action on Saturday against #19 Merrimack to close out the Kickoff Classic. Kickoff at Martone-Mejail Field in North Andover, Mass. is set for 3 p.m.
