LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The fifth-seeded Post University softball team was eliminated from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament on Thursday as its season came to a close. The Eagles fell to #4 Holy Family 2-0 to start the day and were defeated by #8 Felician 3-0 in their second game.
Game One - #4 Holy Family 2, Post 0
Post could not get anything going offensively all day and was held to just one hit against the Tigers. Junior
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) singled through the left side in the second inning. Freshman
Marissa Wilson (Holbrook, N.Y.) reached on a weak line drive that went just over the glove of the second baseman, but Ragazzone was thrown out at second on the play. Post would not have another baserunner in game one.
Holy Family scored both of its runs in the fourth inning. The Tigers began the inning with two straight hits. A sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. Post committed errors on the next two batters as two runs came in.
Senior
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) threw a complete game and struck out three.
Game Two - #8 Felician 3, Post 0
Defensive miscues hurt the Eagles again in game two as a wild pitch and an error allowed Felician to jump in front 2-0 in the first inning. Junior
Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) singled to right center in the third inning to end a span of seven innings without a base runner for Post.
The Eagles best chance came in the fifth inning. Junior
Marissa Cammarano (Bedford, Mass.) singled through the left side with two outs. Owens followed with her second hit of the game, but a groundout ended the threat.
Felician added its third run in the sixth inning on a two-out double down the left field line. Post put runners on in each of the final two frames but were unable score and extend the season.
Esque tossed another complete game and struck out five. She finished the season with 157 strikeouts, the second-highest single season total in Post's NCAA history.
The Eagles finish the year with a record of 25-23, tying their most wins since 2009.
