Eagles Win Second Straight Game, Beat Felician

Childs-Harris, Sheloski and Deren Lead Way

Waterbury, Conn. - Junior Nicole Sheloski (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) scored 16 points, sophoomore Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.) scored 13, and classmate Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) used a sharpshooting fourth quarter to lead the Post University women's basketball team to its second straight win, defeating Felician, 63-56.

Down three entering the fourth quarter, Sheloski hit two jumpers sandwiched by a free throw from Felician to tie the game, 47-47 with eight minutes left in the game. After Felician went back up by four, Deren buried two three-pointers to give the Eagles a 53-51 lead with 5:37 left. Childs-Harris extended the lead to five points after making a free-throw and a layup in consecutive possessions. The Golden Falcons cut the deficit to two at 58-56 with 1:55 left, but Deren found Childs-Harris for a corner jumper with 22 seconds left to seal the win for the Eagles.

Post fell behind 13-2 early in the game before cutting the deficit to four points at 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. 

In the second quarter, junior Dericka Sims (Chesapeake, Va.) and freshman Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) combined to score the last seven points of the half for the Eagles to give them a 26-25 lead going into halftime.

Deren opened up the second half with a three to give the Eagles a 29-25 lead, but Felician went on an 11-2 run to take a 36-31 lead with 7:06 left.  Sheloski then scored 10 of the next 12 point for the Eagles during a 12-5 run, giving them a 43-41 lead. Felician scored the final five points of the quarter to take a three-point lead going into the final frame.

Deren finished with 11 points for the Eagles (2-20, 2-11 CACC). Childs-Harris added eight rebounds and four assists to go along with her 13 points and junior Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) scored nine points while grabbing seven rebounds.

 Shyla Osmond led all Felician (2-19, 2-12) players in scoring with 16 points. Hannah Johnson chipped in with 10. 

Up next for the Eagles is a road game at Holy Family on Saturday at 1 p.m.
