Jovan Kingwood (Norwich, Conn.) scored 15 points, and sophomore
Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 points as the Post University women's basketball team defeated Nyack, 63-53 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.
The Eagles fell behind 17-11 in the first quarter after Nyack finished the quarter on a 9-3 run. Post spread the scoring around in the quarter as five different players scored in the first frame of action.
After the Warriors increased their lead to 19-11 to open the second quarter, the Eagles rattled off an 11-0 run to take a 22-19 lead. Kingwood scored the first nine points of the run, going 4-for-4 from the field. After two free throws from Raven Makins gave the Warriors the lead again at 23-22, sophomore
Georgia Black (Burlington, Vt.) and Kingwood scored back-to-back buckets to give the Eagles a 26-23 lead. Jumpers from Lisa Fields and Makins gave Nyack the lead one more time in the quarter before sophomore
Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.) and Kingwood hit two jumpers in the final 18 seconds to give the Eagles a 30-27 halftime lead.
In the third, the Eagles increased their lead in a blink of an eye to nine points as Deren hit back-to-back three pointers to open the quarter, giving Post a 36-27 lead. Twice the Eagles would increase its lead to 10, but Nyack was able to cut it to a four-point game after a bucket by Makin with eight seconds left in the quarter made it a 42-38 game. However, junior
Dericka Sims (Chesapeake, Va.) beat the clock with a jumper of her own to give Post a 44-38 at the end of the third.
Post wouldn't let Nyack get any closer than five points during the fourth as the Eagles lived at the free-throw line, going 12-for-15 in the quarter. Freshman
Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) was 4-for-4 from the line during the quarter.
Kingwood was efficient in getting her 15 points, going 7-for-9 from the field. Deren was 3-for-7 from three-point range. Childs-Harris and junior
Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) eached finished with eight points. Middleton finished with six.
The Eagles (3-23, 3-14 CACC) bench crushed Nyack's bench, outscoring them 29-9. The Eagles also outdueled the Warriors in the paint, outscoring them 36-34.
Up next for the Eagles is their final home game of the season as they face Concordia in a CACC game on Feb. 20 at 1 p.m.
