Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Eagles Hang Tough With Caldwell, But Lose, 72-55

Waterbury, Conn. – Senior Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) and company hung tough with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference-leading Caldwell, but the Post University women's basketball team lost 72-55 Monday night at the Drubner Center.

The Eagles started out strong, scoring the first four points of the game on baskets from freshman Taylor Ceballos (Milford, Conn.) and senior Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) before the Cougars went on a run of their own, scoring the next nine points to go up 9-4. They'd end the quarter leading 24-13.

After a slow start to the second quarter, falling behind 34-13, the Eagles finished the quarter on an 8-2 run, thanks in large part to four points from junior Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.).

Post cut the deficit to single digits midway through the third, starting the quarter on a 10-4 run, capped by a layup from Ceballos. The Eagles (1-8, 1-3 CACC) outscored Caldwell in the quarter, 13-12.

In the fourth, the Cougars were able to pull away for the win and improve to 8-1 on the season and 4-0 in the CACC.

Jones finished with 18 points on the game to lead the Eagles. Ceballos just missed out on a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

Caroline Dunn scored 17 off the bench to lead Caldwell. Kristen Drogsier had 14.

Post outrebounded Caldwell, 44-41.

Up next for the Eagles is an out-of-conference game at home against American International College at 5:30 p.m.
