Waterbury, Conn. – Sophomore
Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) scored a career-high 20 points – including 12 in the fourth quarter - to lead four Eagles in double figures, but the women's basketball team fell just short in a 76-70 loss to American International College in an out-of-conference game Thursday evening at the Drubner Center.

Dericka Sims (Chesapeake, Va.) and
Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) each scored 16 apiece and classmate
Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 10 for the Eagles.
The contest was tight throughout as AIC (7-3, 4-1 NE-10 went into the final quarter with just a two-point lead. The teams swapped leads twice during the final quarter, but the Yellow Jackets pulled away at the end, holding a lead no bigger than nine points the rest of the way. The Yellow Jackets hit seven of their final eight free-throws to preserve the win.
After the Yellow Jackets closed the first half on a 12-5 run to go up and went up by as much as 12 points early on in the third, the Eagles (1-9, 1-3 CACC) rattled off a 17-4 run over a 5:37 stretch to take a 50-49 lead with 2:13 left in the quarter, capped by two free-throws by Acklin. During that run, Sims scored seven straight points, including a three-pointer. Middleton also hit a three-pointer during the run.
Dana Watts finished with a double-double for AIC, with 28 points and 13 rebounds. Imani Stepney had 15 points and 11 rebounds.
