Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Jones And Acklin Each Have Double-Doubles In Loss To Concordia

Waterbury, Conn. – Senior Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) had season-highs of 26 points and 12 rebounds, and classmate Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) had 14 points and 13 rebounds and the Post women's basketball came back from an early 20-point deficit, but fell to Concordia, 74-65 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Sunday afternoon at the Drubner Center.

After falling behind 28-8 at the 6:14 mark in the second quarter, the Eagles went on a 21-4 run to close the half to trail 32-29.  Jones was the catalyst of the run, scoring nine points during the stretch. Sophomore Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) scored five during the run and junior Abriana Diana (Hartford, Conn.), making her season debut, scored three points and had two assists during the stretch.

It didn't take long for Post to take the lead as the second half began as a jumper from senior Dericka Sims (Chesapeake, Va.) gave the Eagles their first lead of the game at 33-32 with 7:52 left in the third. The teams would exchange the lead five times in the quarter with the Clippers taking a 57-49 lead at the end of the quarter.

Concordia opened up a 14-point lead in the fourth with 6:05 left, and the Eagles again would make a run cutting it to four-points with under a minute left, but the Clippers hit five of their last six free-throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Sims finished with eight points and five rebounds and Diana scored three points to go along with six assists in her debut.

Concordia's Julianne Wilkinson scored 15 points in the first quarter and finished with 39, going 6-for-15 from three, and making 13 of her 15 free-throw attempts.

The Eagles don't have a lot of rest as they take on Assumption in an out-of-conference game on Monday at the Drubner Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
