Eagles Drop CACC Championship to Georgian Court in PK Shootout

GCU wins title with 4-3 shootout vicory

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Championship game could not be decided after 110 minutes as Post and Georgian Court remained deadlocked 1-1. Georgian Court outlasted the Eagles in a penalty shootout 4-3 to win the title on their home field on Sunday afternoon.

After dominating play for most of the afternoon, the Eagles finally broke through in the 83rd minute as freshman Gabriel Aguilar (Stamford, Conn.) danced through the defense after a Lions' turnover and beat the keeper to put Post in front 1-0.

In the 88th minute, Post was called for a handball just outside the box to give the Lions a free kick. Sean Graham found the head of Michael Clarke to knot the game.

The Eagles best chance in the overtime was in the 94th minute as senior Armando Filho (Cataguases, Brazil) missed a shot from close range just to the right of the post.

Things looked dire for Post as it missed its first two penalty kick attempts as Georgian Court made both. Senior Abdallah Bah (St. Paul, Minn.) put the Eagles on the board in the third round of the shootout and Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) followed with a save as the score stood at 2-1.

The teams traded successful attempts and junior Kenu Walker (Kingston, Jamaica) scored to tie the shootout 3-3 heading into the Lions' final attempt. Clarke once again came up big for Georgian Court with as he beat Hanlon to the left side to take home the title.

In the first half, Post outshot Georgian Court 7-0 and the Eagles held an 18-9 advantage in shots on the day.

Filho, Bah, and junior Nicholas Strecker (Uncasville, Conn.) were each named to the All-Tournament Team.
