Waterbury, Conn. – A long two-pointer from junior
Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.) capped a comeback for the ages as the Post University women's basketball team came back from 25 points down in the second half for its first win of the season, a 74-73 win over Felician in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.
Down 63-38 with 3:09 left in the third quarter, the Eagles went on a 36-10 run to close out the game. The Eagles rattled off the final 12 points of the third, as senior
Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) and sophomore
Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla.) helped cut the deficit to 63-50 heading into the final quarter.
In the final frame, the Eagles kept the comeback going and took their first lead of the second half with 1:06 remaining when senior
Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) made a layup to give the Eagles a 72-71 lead. The Golden Falcons would take the lead on their next possession on a layup from Marya Trapp.
On the ensuing possession, Childs-Harris, with just two points at the time, hit the biggest shot of her Post career, taking a step just inside the three-point line and burying a jumper to give the Eagles a 74-73 lead with 49 seconds left. The Eagles defense stepped up on the final two possessions for Felician to secure the win.
The bench kept the Eagles (1-6, 1-1 CACC) in the game early on, as freshman
Migle Mitruleviciute (Kaunas, Lithuania) led Post on an 11-3 run to begin the second half to give the Eagles a 24-21 lead with 6:06 remaining. Mitruleviciute scored five straight points – her total for the game - during the stretch. The Post bench scored 29 points, compared to just 11 for Felician.
Acklin led the Eagles with 13 points and seven rebounds. Middleton finished with 12 points and five rebounds and freshman
Taylor Ceballos (Milford, Conn.) had 10. Jones came close to a double-double with eight points and seven rebounds.
The Eagles made the most of their opportunities at the free-throw line, making 16 of 19 attempts. They also outrebounded the Golden Falcons, 49-38.
Marya Trapp led Felician with 25 points. Marta Moix had 15 and Danelle Gibson had 11.
