WILMINGTON, Del. – The Post University volleyball team fell to Caldwell 3-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Semifinals on Saturday afternoon in Wilmington, Del. Senior
Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) recorded the 1,000
th kill of her Eagles' career and finished with a team-high 15 on the day.
After dropping the first set 25-19, the Eagles cruised to 25-15 and 25-16 victories in the next two to lead 2-1 heading into the fourth.
Post found itself down 11-6 in the fourth set after two consecutive aces by the Cougars forced the Eagles to call a timeout. Out of the break, two kills by sophomore
Sarah Seger (Yorktowm Heights, N.Y.) sparked a 5-0 run that knotted the set at 11.
The teams battled back and forth from there and down 20-17, Post rallied to score three straight points to tie the game once against and force the Cougars to call a late timeout. Caldwell scored five of the final six points to send the match to a decisive fifth set with a 25-20 victory.
Post held an early lead in the fifth and led 5-4 after a kill by senior
Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.). Caldwell answered with a four-point run to take its largest lead of the final set. The Eagles chipped away and an ace by junior
Sarah Ryder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) tied the score 9-9. The Cougars grabbed the next two points and didn't look back as they took the set 15-12.
Morgan Griffin added 19 digs, four blocks, and five aces on the day. Senior
Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) had a double-double with 14 kills, 15 digs, and three aces. Segar chipped in 13 kills and eight digs. Ryder recorded a season-high 27 digs. Senior
Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) added 21 digs as Post had 105 digs in the match. Sophomore
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) put up 49 assists and 15 digs.
The Eagles now await their NCAA fate as the eight-team field for the East Regional Tournament is released on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Post is currently ranked fourth in the region.
