WATERBURY, Conn. – Two third-quarter touchdowns by Chestnut Hill doomed the Post University sprint football team as it fell 14-12 at Municipal Stadium in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Bowl on Saturday night.
 
The night began great for the Eagles as freshman Buddy Enriquez (Sacramento, Calif.) hit senior Jarrick Sharp (Hampton, Va.) for 66 yards down to the Chestnut Hill three-yard line. Two plays later, Enriquez scrambled and found senior Rocco Guerrera (Watertown, Conn.) in the back of the end zone, the ensuing extra-point was block, but led 6-0 early.
 
Senior Fabian Santa Cruz (Vista, Calif.) recovered a fumble by Griffin quarterback Mike Marino on the next drive to set the Eagles up deep in Chestnut Hill territory. Post drove down to the one yard line, but was stood up twice by the Griffin defense and turned the ball over on downs.
 
Neither team was able to get anything going on offense for the remainder of the first half.
 
A seven-play, 57-yard drive by Chestnut Hill to begin the second half ended with a 12-yard touchdown run by Jonathan Barber as the visitors pulled in front 7-6. Post went three-and-out on its next possession and Marino hit Reginald Robinson Jr. from 21 yards out to extend the Griffins' lead to 14-6.
 
Post used a long drive at the end of the third quarter to get down inside the red zone and were faced with a fourth-and-11 on the Griffins' 18 yard line to begin the fourth. Enriquez was unable to connect with Sharp and the Eagles turned it over on downs.
 
Santa Cruz came up huge for the Eagles against on defense as he forced a fumble by Marino and senior Kacy Bryan (New York, N.Y.) recovered at the Chestnut Hill 27 yard line with 12:51 left. Freshman Khaliq Little (Brooklyn, N.Y.) looked to have a touchdown from one-yard out, but a late penalty forced Post back and it unable to convert on fourth down
 
Freshman Brad Grasso (Wolcott, Conn.) forced another fumble by the Griffins, their fourth of the night, as Post once again took over on the opponents side of the field with just over five minutes remaining in the game. This time the Eagles would not leave empty handed as Little rushed it in from a yard out. Post was unable to make the two-point conversion and trailed 14-12 with 3:41 left.
 
The Eagles defense stood strong and forced a punt. Post took over on its own six-yard line with 1:16 remaining. Enriquez looked to throw deep, but Robinson Jr. picked him off to end the Eagles night.
 
Enriquez finished the game with a season-high 263 yards through the air on 27-of-40 passing. Sharp pulled down nine passes for 128 yards. Defensively, Santa Cruz stood out with 10 tackles, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a half sack. Senior Chris Leggio (Brewster, N.Y.) made 12 stops.
 
Post returns to LaMoy Field for Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 15 against Army. Kickoff is set for noon.
