Lyndhurst, N.J. – Senior
Sylvia Yanez (West Haven, Conn.) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season, but a rally by the Post University women's soccer team fell just short in a 2-1 loss to Felician in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.
With two games remaining in CACC play, the Eagles are now 4-8-1 overall and 4-6-1 in the CACC.
After falling behind 2-0 at the end of the first half, Yanez took a pass from junior
Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) in the middle of the box and put it past goalkeeper Bjonda Ademi to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 55
th minute.
The Eagles put the offensive pressure on in the final six minutes of the second half as Yanez and junior
Angela Ciaramella (Hamden, Conn.) both had shots stopped by Ademi in the 84
th and 85
th minutes, respectively.
Felician's first goal came from Sami Lederle as she received a cross down the goal line from Danielle Stoll to put the Golden Falcons up 1-0 in the 12
th minute. In the 19
th minute, a little bad luck struck the Eagles as a throw in from Felician bounced off the defense and into the net to make it a 2-0 game in the 19
th minute.
Sophomore
Cailah Baranowski (Naugatuck, Conn.) had another impressive day in the net, finishing with six saves on the day.
Coach
Matt Micros was happy with the resiliency of the team after falling behind early. "Today, we missed a few chances and made a couple of mistakes early and had to play catch up the rest of the way. We fought valiantly to get back in it, but came up short," Micros said.
Up next for the Eagles is a CACC home game against Goldey-Beacom at noon on October 22 at LaMoy Field.
