Kingwood Has Career Day In Loss To Goldey Beacom

Finishes With 31 Points And 13 Rebounds

Waterbury, Conn. - Junior Jovan Kingwood (Norwich, Conn.) had a career day, pouring in 31 points and 13 rebounds as the Post University Eagles lost a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game to Goldey-Beacom on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles started out hot, jumping out to a 12-6 lead early in the first quarter. Kingwood scored eight points in the stretch, including the first basket of the game. Junior Dericka Sims (Chesapeake, Va.) scored four points during the stretch.

Goldey Beacom closed out the first quarter on a 12-0 run, but it didn't deter the Eagles as they were down just 31-24 at halftime. Kingwood scored nine of her points in the half. Sims, sophomore Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.) and sophomore Georgia Black (Burlington, Vt.) each chipped in with four points apiece.

The third quarter was tightly contested as the Lightning were unable to extend their lead. The Eagles got to within three points at the 4:04 mark after a three-pointer from Kingwood. The Lightning would extend their lead back to seven points at 1:52 on a three pointer from Lexi Bruno - who finished with 28 points - but Black responded with a three-pointer of her own on the next possession for the Eagles. Goldey-Beacom went into the fourth up 43-37.

Kingwood came out on fire in the fourth, scoring 12 of her team's first 14 points, including two three-pointers during the stretch. Her jumper at 9:01 brought cut the Lightning's lead to 43-42. After a bucket by Goldey's Britani Bryson put the lightning up by three points at 45-42, junior Nicole Sheloski hit a mid-range jumper to cut the deficit to one, again.

Goldey (5-12, 5-3 CACC) again would extend its lead to six points at the 6:32 mark, but a three-pointer and a layup from Kingwood made it a 50-49 game with 5:39 left. After an 8-2 run by the Lightning made it a 58-51 game, Sims made back to back layups to cut the deficit to three points again at 2:06. However, that would be the closest the Eagles would get the rest of the way.

Kingwood finished 5-for-9 from three-point range on the day. Sims finished the game with nine points and six rebounds. Childs-Harris had a great all-around game, with six points, nine rebounds and three assists.

The Eagles (0-15, 0-7 CACC) outrebounded the Lightning 33-29.

Up next for the Eagles is a road CACC game against Wilmington at 6 p.m. on January 12.
