Near Double-Double For Childs-Harris In Loss To Caldwell

Deren Chips In With 10 Points

Caldwell, N.J. - Sophomore Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.) scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds in an 86-52 loss at Caldwell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Tuesday evening.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 4-0 lead as juniors Nicole Sheloski (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) and Dericka Sims (Chesapeake, Va.) hit back-to-back jumpers to start the game.  Caldwell went on a 7-0 afterwards, to take the lead, but the Eagles got layups from Childs-Harris and Sims with a Caldwell layup mixed in between to make it a 9-8 Cougars lead with 5:47 left in the first quarter. The Cougars would then close out with an 18-8 lead to close out the quarter with a 27-16 lead.

Caldwell jumped out to a 12-4 run to  go up 39-20 to begin the second quarter before. The Eagles trimmed the deficit to 44-29 at the half. Sims finished with seven points in the half, and sophomore Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) was perfect from the field, going 3-for-3 in the half, including hitting two three-pointers for the Eagles.

Sophomore Emily McCann (Gold Coast, Australia) would score the first bucket of the third quarter, but it'd be as close as the Eagles would get the rest of the way as the Cougars were able to close out the game.

Deren finished with 10 points for the Eagles, going 4-for-5 from the field. Childs-Harris scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half.

The Eagles (0-19, 0-10 CACC) outscored the Cougars (14-7, 9-3 CACC) bench, 29-28 and the teams were equal in points in the paint at 28 apiece.

Up next for the Eagles is a CACC road game at Concordia on Thursday at 5 p.m.
