Eagles Take Home-Opener Against Molloy, 3-1

Post Improves to 3-2 on Season

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team defeated Molloy 3-1 in its home-opener at the Drubner Center Tuesday night. The Eagles were led by junior Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) who finished with 17 kills, 13 digs, five aces, and four blocks. The set scores were 25-19, 25-23, 22-25, and 25-18.

The teams traded leads early in the first set, but two kills by junior Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) gave Post a 9-6 advantage. Molloy got as close as one until a 6-2 Eagles' run broke the game open. Post led by as many as seven before it was over.

Post looked like it was going to run away with the second set after taking a 9-4 lead out of the gate to force a timeout by Molloy. German had two aces during the stretch. The Eagles held their largest lead at 18-10 after a block by freshman Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) and German. The Lions came all the way back and trailed by just one at 24-23 before Root ended the set with a kill.

Molloy jumped ahead 6-2 to start the third, but the Eagles chipped away an eventually tied the score 15-15. Post led 22-21 after a late kill by German, but the Lions scored the final four points to take the set.

Set four was a back and forth battle and Molloy led 9-8 early. Post staged a 9-3 run, helped by four kills by German. The junior then took the serve and the Eagles scored seven straight to extend their advantage to 24-13. The Lions didn't not lay down and answered with five consecutive points before an error ended the match.

Senior Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) had a game-high 18 digs. Morgan Griffin added 11 kills. Hailey Griffin had a career-high 4.5 total blocks (three solo, three assists) to go with seven kills. Root put up 40 assists.

Post returns to action this Friday at the Charger Invitational hosted by New Haven. The Eagles will play the Chargers at 3 p.m. and Daemen at 7 p.m. on the first night of the two-day event.
