Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University women's soccer team won its second straight game, defeating Concordia, 3-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field.
With the win, the Eagles improved to 2-3 on the year, and more importantly, 2-0 in the CACC. Concordia falls to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in the CACC.
The Eagles got on the board first after a slow start when sophomore
Angela Ciaramella (Hamden, Conn.) took a pass from senior
Lexxi Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) on the right side of the penalty box and found sophomore
Katharina Mertz who was cutting across the left side to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead in the 14
th minute. It was the third goal of the season for Mertz.
The Eagles defense was stifling, not allowing any quality shots from the Clippers in the first half. Senior goalie
Laura Morgan (Brush Prairie, Wash.) had one save in the half. She also earned the win.
"Our defense and goalkeepers have been very strong so far and we are creating chances. Just need a bit more consistency of effort and composure in the final 3rd," head coach
Matt Micros said.
Post took the 1-0 into the halftime break,
In the second half, the offense opened up as junior
Sylvia Yanez (West Haven, Conn.) took a rebound off a shot from Ciaramella and put home her second goal of the year in the 66
th minute past Clippers' goalie, Samantha Street.
Shortly thereafter, in the 70
th minute, sophomore
Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.), who had recently subbed back into the game, stole the ball at midfield, and fed it to a sprinting Carroll who took it the rest of the way and put a shot past Street for the final goal of the game.
"We are a different team this year. Last year we were very explosive. This year, we are trying to stay tight in the back and keep the ball offensively. Try to control the pace of the game.
Senior
Brittany Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) played the second half and registered a save.
Post outshot Concordia, 12-3 overall, and 7-2 in shots on goal.
Up next for the Eagles is a Saturday home game against Chestnut Hill at noon.
