Wilmington, De. - The Post University Eagles baseball team tried for another late, ninth inning rally, but fell short as it dropped a 6-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament game to Chestnut Hill on Friday afternoon, ending its season.
The Eagles finished their season 21-18 overall.
Post, which came back from a 4-1 deficit in the ninth inning to defeat Dominican on Thursday, found themselves down 6-2 entering the ninth against reliever Patrick Kelley.
Senior Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) flied out to left-center before junior Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) started the rally with a single. After Rodriguez was replaced by freshman David Sarmiento (Miami, Fla.) on the base paths, Kelley would then walk sophomore Drew Deangelis (Robbinsville, N.J.) and freshman Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.).
With the bases loaded, however, senior Brian McKenna (New York, N.Y.) grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.
The Eagles fell behind 1-0Â in the first before Deangelis hit an RBI double in the second to drive in Rodriguez.
Post would go up 2-1 in the fourth on a single by junior Jeff Thoburn (Saint-Lazare, Quebec) that scored Pastor.
An RBI double by Chestnut Hill's Preston Koehler and RBI single by Taylor Steen gave the Griffins a 3-2 lead in the sixth.
Chestnut Hill would tack on two more runs in the seventh on RBI singles by Joseph Monaghan and Michael McLaughlin. McLaughlin also hit an RBI double in the ninth.
Starting sophomore Evan Devico (Waterbury, Conn.) got the loss, pitching 6.1 innings, giving up five runs - four earned - on eight hits and two walks while striking out three.
Andrew Sibson was credited with the win for the Griffins, pitching six innings, and giving up two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two.
Chestnut Hill will meet Wilmington in the CACC final in Wilmington on Saturday at 11 a.m.
