LAKEWOOD, N.J.— The Post University softball team was defeated at the hands of #2 Dominican College on Friday, May 1 to conclude its 2015 season. The Chargers jumped on the board early scoring four runs through three innings. The Eagles looked poised for a late-inning comeback but fell short 4-2 in the second day of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament.Â

Senior
Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) got the start in the circle for the Eagles and tossed 3.0 complete innings. She allowed four runs (two earned) over five hits.

Junior
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) came on in relief and pitched 3.0 scoreless. The CACC Pitcher of the Year allowed three hits and struck out three.Â

Dominican, the home team, cashed in on a RBI infield-hit following a lead-off double down the right field line to push one across in the bottom-half of the first.

The Chargers tacked on another in the second inning with two-outs and the bases-loaded. Dominican took a 2-0 advantage when Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) reached on an Eagle fielding error.Â

Dominican scored two runs in the bottom-half of the third inning on just one hit and three Eagle miscues. MacKenzie Wise (Middletown, N.Y.) came up with the big hit in the inning, a RBI-double to the gap in right center field. Wise came around to score later in the inning to give her team a 4-0 lead.Â

It was nothing doing for the Post offense through five innings, but the Eagles collected four hits in the top-half of the sixth inning to cut their deficit in half. The Eagle bats caught fire with back-to-back singles by Junior
Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) and sophomore
Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.).

Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) served a RBI-single to right field to score the first Eagle run, and first-year
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) copied with a RBI-single of her own.Â

Post was bounced from the CACC Tournament after coming up short 4-2 in the top-half of the seventh inning. The Dominican starter, Emily Larsen (Midlothian, Ill.) was credited with the win and Derby got the loss.Â
