Deren Scores Career-High In Loss

Viselli Hits Four Three-Pointers

Philadelphia, Pa. - Freshman Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) scored a career-high 19 points, but it wasn't enough as the Post University women's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference road game to Philadelphia, 83-65 on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 5-18 overall, and 5-9 in the CACC. With the win, the Rams improve to 16-4 overall and 10-2 in the CACC.

The Eagles scored the first four points of the game, thanks to a layup from freshman Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn.) and two free-throws from Deren. Philadelphia would score the next seven points before the Eagles went on a 7-0 run on their own, capped by a jumper by junior Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.). Sophomores Jessica Ayala (Middletown, N.Y.) and Nicole Sheloski (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) also scored during the run.

Both teams would slug it out over the next eight minutes before the Rams went on a 25-12 run to close out the half and go into the break with a 47-33 lead.

The Eagles had a balance scoring attack in the first half with seven different players scoring. Sophomore Dericka Sims (Chesapeake, Va.) came off the bench and was a spark, scoring eight points in the first 20 minutes. Deren had seven in the first half.

The Rams tried to pull away in the second half, increasing their lead to 21 points at the 9:47 mark before the Eagles went on a 20-9 run over the next seven minutes, as Deren hit a three-pointer with 2:07 left to cut the deficit to 77-65. However, it wasn't enough as the Rams pulled away in the final two minutes for the win.

Freshman Nicole Viselli (Groveland, Ma.) hit four three-pointers and finished with 13 points. Childs-Harris finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. The Eagles scored 14 points off the bench. Sims finished with eight and Ayala scored six.

Four players for the Rams scored in double-figures, led by Monica Shacker, who had 18. Najah Jacobs scored 17 and Mary Newell and Tori Arnao had 12 a piece. Arnao also had 15 rebounds.

Up next for the Eagles is a home game against Caldwell on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. For that game, the Eagles will wear pink jerseys to help raise awareness for cancer research. The team will be collecting donations at the Drubner Center.
