PREVIEW: Men’s Basketball Looks To Get On Track Against Nyack

Eagles Have Won Three of last Four at Drubner

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team looks to snap its two-game losing streak on Wednesday night as it hosts Nyack in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) clash. The Eagles are 6-4 at the Drubner Center this year and have won three of their last four at home. Nyack hasn't won on the road since Jan. 10.
 
Last Time Out: Goldey-Beacom 56, Post 55 – Recap | Box Score
Down four points with 23 seconds left, freshman Jah'sheme Ringgold (Easton, Md.) converted a three-point play to bring Post within one point, but his late jumper fell short as the Post University men's basketball team was defeated by Goldey-Beacom 56-55 on Saturday afternoon. Ringgold finished with nine points off the bench for the Eagles.
 
Post trailed by as many as 12 points in the second half and was down 49-37 with just under nine minutes to play. Senior Nardie Bogues (Baltimore, Md.) hit a three with 8:46 left to spark a 12-3 run by the Eagles to bring them back into the game. Ringgold scored five points during the run and freshman Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) hit two free-throws to cut the deficit to 52-49 with 4:30 left. Mareno led Post with 14 points and 11 boards on the day.
 
Goldey-Beacom would extend its advantage back to seven points before Post's late comeback.
 
Scouting the Warriors
Nyack is 5-15 overall and 4-9 in CACC play this season, but has lost its last four times out. The Warriors last victory came over Post 74-64 on Jan. 17. Nick Moore leads Nyack at 14.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. The Warriors average just 66.2 points per contest, but are second in the CACC at 7.8 steals per game. Khalid Samuels led all scorers with 20 points last time against Post and the Warriors shot a season-high 56.2 percent from the field, but also committed 24 turnovers.
 
All-Time Record vs. Nyack
The Eagles are 14-9 against Nyack dating back to 2003 and are 7-4 at the Drubner Center during that span. The Warriors defeated Post earlier this season; freshman Malik Howze (Detroit, Mich.) led the way with 13 points for the Eagles.

Tough D From Distance
Post is fourth the CACC and 16th in the nation in opponents' three-point percentage. The Eagles allow their opponents to shoot at just a 31.0 percent clip. Post has held its rivals to under 25.0 percent shooting in seven games this year. Their season-best performance came in the opener against Roberts Wesleyan as the Redhawks were just 7.7 percent (1-13) from distance.
 
Limiting Giveaways
The Eagles have had less or the same amount of turnovers than their opponents in all but five games this season. In seven games this year, Post has committed 10 or less turnovers, with a season-low of seven coming in the opener against Roberts Wesleyan.
 
Eagles Piling Up Weekly Honors
Freshman Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) has been named CACC Rookie of the Week on four times this season and ECAC Rookie of the Week three times. He has also earned Defensive Player of the Week honors once. Mareno leads the team at 12.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. He has also posted four double-doubles this year. Freshman Jah'sheme Ringgold (Easton, Md.) was named CACC and ECAC Rookie of the Week on Jan. 26.
 
Starting From Scratch
The Eagles return just one player from a year ago in sophomore Rokas Lapsys (Vilnius, Lithuania). Lapsys who appeared in just three games, averaging 9.3 minutes per outing. This year's roster features 13 players including six freshman, two sophomores, four juniors, and one senior. The players come from all over the globe with two from England in freshmen Kyle Squire (Cheshire, England) and Joseph Lockwood (London, England) and one from Australia, junior Shannon McCready (Melbourne, Australia) and Lithuania.
 
Preseason Poll
Post was picked to finish fifth in the CACC North Division this year. The Eagles received 41 votes. Bloomfield and Philadelphia were selected to finish first in the North and South Divisions, respectively.
 
On the Horizon
Post visits Philadelphia on Saturday, Feb. 7. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
