Mareno Named CACC Rookie of the Year, Bogues Tabbed Third Team All-Conference

Eagles Host Philadelphia in CACC Tournament Tomorrow

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) of the Post University men's basketball team was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Year on Friday. He also joins senior Nardie Bogues (Baltimore, Md.) on the All-Conference Third Team.

Mareno was the top scorer (13.5) and rebounder (8.6) among CACC freshman this season. He earned the conference's Rookie of the Week honors six times during the year and was the ECAC's top weekly newcomer five times. Mareno posted a team-high eight double doubles this year. Last time out against Georgian Court he had one of his best games of the year with season-highs of 29 points and 15 rebounds to go with three blocks and two steals.

The lone senior on the Eagles' squad, Bogues, made an immediate slash in his first year in Waterbury. He led the team and was fourth in the CACC with 4.4 assists per contest and was second in scoring at 12.2 per game. Bogues was second in the league with an impressive 86.7 shooting percentage from the foul line and also topped the team with 1.5 steals per game. He also lit it up from distance with a team best 54 made threes, including tying the school record with an 8-of-9 performance from deep for 30 points in a win over Caldwell.

For the third consecutive season, USciences' Garrett Kerr took home Player of the Year honors. The Devils head coach David Pauley was named Coach of the Year and his team earned the Sportsmanship Award. Isaiah Gans of Holy Family was tabbed as Defensive Player of the Year.

Mareno, Bogues, and the rest of the Eagles will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they host Philadelphia in the CACC Quarterfinals at the Drubner Center. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students with IDs, seniors, and children.
