Acklin, Viselli and Deren Have Huge Second Half

Waterbury, Conn. -
Freshmen Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and Nicole Viselli (Groveland, Ma.) combined to hit six three-pointers in the second half, and senior Jacquelynne Pugh (Grahamsville, N.Y.) closed out her career with her final two points as the Post University Eagles women's basketball team came back from a 15 point deficit in the second half to defeat Georgian Court, 85-79 in the final Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular season game at the Drubner Center.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 7-21 overall and 7-12 in the CACC. Georgian Court falls to 2-23 overall and 2-16 in the CACC.

The first half was an exciting one,

as Pugh scored the first two points of the game and the final two of her career on a pass from sophomore Dericka Sims (Chesapeake, Va.).

The Eagles looked to run away with the game early as a jumper by junior Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) gave the Eagles a 16-10 lead with 12:52. The Lions, however answered with a jumper from Tahira Matthews to cut the lead to four points.

There were seven lead changes over the first 17:27 before the Lions went on a 10-0 run to go into halftime up 43-34 thanks to four points from Kiara Colston during the stretch.

Sims led the way for the Eagles in the first half with nine points. Acklin and freshman Lexus Childs-Harris each had seven.

Matthews and Jess Placher each had 11 points for the Lions.

In the second half, the both teams played even again before the Lions went on a 7-0 midway through the first half to go up 62-46 with 12:02 left.

The deficit didn't last long for the Eagles as they went on a 16-2 run over the next 4:05 to cut the deficit to one point. Deren hit three three-pointers during the stretch.

Colston would make another layup at 3:58 to put the Lions back up by four before Deren answered with another three-pointer. After a missed layup by Colston the next trip down, Sims came down the court for a layup  giving the Eagles their first lead of the second half. The teams would swap leads two more times before Viselli came up big with back-to-back three-pointers to give the Eagles the lead for good at 79-76 with 36 seconds left.
